Eye Examination

Kelcher Optometrists provide an Enhanced Eye Examination which includes the Optomap scan and an Ultimate Eye Exam which includes OCT and Optomap scans.
The cost of the Enhanced Eye Exam is £55, and the Ultimate Eye Exam is £80. If you are eligible for an NHS sight test, you can upgrade to these more detailed Eye Examinations. Our scans are suitable for all patients and all ages.
We offer Eyeplan to cover all your eye care needs for £12.50 per month. As well as covering the cost of all eye appointments, you receive special member pricing on glasses and eye care products and accidental damage cover on your new glasses! Ask us about joining Eyeplan at your next appointment.
During your Eye Exam, the Optometrist will test your vision, determine your glasses prescription, check the health of your eyes and perform other tests, including binocular assessment (how your eyes work together), intraocular (eye) pressure measurement and peripheral vision testing if required. At the end of your Eye Exam the Optometrist will advise you about any management needed and if glasses are required.
While the practice is dedicated to providing NHS services, the NHS basic Sight Test does not cover the new technologies and techniques that are recommended for a thorough Eye Exam. If you are entitled to a basic NHS Sight Test, you can upgrade to an Enhanced Eye Exam for £25 and an Ultimate Eye Exam for £50.
Children’s Eye Care
Good eyesight is crucial in making sure a child develops to their full potential both at school and socially. It’s especially important to look after children’s eyes – the eye is still developing throughout early childhood so if problems are treated early, it can make a lasting difference.
Myopia (short-sightedness) is increasing in children. The younger myopia develops, the stronger the glasses will be but early intervention with myopia control can slow its progression and help protect long-term eye health. Kelcher Optometrists offers myopia management options for your child with specially designed glasses and contact lenses. Ask us for more information.
It’s never too early to have an eye examination and we have tests that can be used on infants and preschool children who cannot read. You recommend that all children have an Optomap scan with their NHS sight test. There is a small additional cost of £12 for a children’s Optomap.

NHS eligibility
At our practice, we provide both private and NHS eye exams. If you’re under 16 or over 60 years old, or between 16 and 18 and studying full-time, you can have a funded NHS eye test. There are other criteria too, like if you’re at risk of glaucoma, have diabetes, or receive certain benefits. If you’re unsure if you qualify, just give us a call and we’ll help you out.
How often should you have an eye exam?
Getting your eyes tested regularly is the best way to look after them.
Even if you don’t notice any changes in your vision, or can see well without glasses, you should have a routine eye test at least every 2 years.
It’s important to get your eyes tested regularly because some eye conditions have no symptoms.
