Community Eyecare

Kelcher Optometrists is registered with Staffordshire Community Eyecare Services.

Any patient registered with a GP in an area that is registered to provide these services can use our community services.

CUES emergency eye appointments

The CUES service allow patients access to urgent eye care within primary care and help to reduce unnecessary referrals to Hospital Eye Service.

What is urgent eye care?

Symptoms that can be seen under the service include:

  • Red or painful eye or eyelid
  • Recently occurring flashes or floaters
  • Recent and sudden loss of vision
  • Foreign body in the eye.

If you have very minor symptoms you may be advised to self care first.

Please note, CUES is not an eye examination and is not a walk-in service.

Glaucoma services

(GRM) Glaucoma Repeat Measures and (ECF) Enhanced Case Finding appointments.

These services allow further checks for glaucoma to be made at the practice without the need to be referred to a hospital glaucoma clinic where the waiting times can be long.

Your optometrist will let you know if you require this service following your eye examination.

Pre- and Post- cataract surgery assessments

If your eye examination reveals the presence of cataract, you can be referred directly to an eye hospital of your choice for cataract surgery. This will reduce your overall number of visits to the Eye Hospital. Following surgery, you will be referred back to your Optometrist for the final post-op examination and refraction.
