OCT
What is an OCT scan?
Optical coherence tomography, or OCT, is an imaging method used to generate a picture of the layers beneath the surface of the back of your eye, called your retina.
This imaging is important for detecting and monitoring diseases of the retina and optic nerve as changes can be detected before they are visible on the surface.
Why would I need an OCT?
Your optometrist may recommend that you have an OCT if you have visual symptoms, are over a certain age or at risk of developing certain eye diseases. An OCT can help to diagnose various eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Having an OCT scan in combination with your Eye Exam and Optomap will allow the Optometrist to obtain the most detailed information about your overall eye health.
Early detection leads to timely treatment and prevention of sight loss.
